Teamsters Local 231 Members at Whatcom County PUD #1 have ratified a new contract that raises wages, adds 2 paid holidays, increases pension contributions and moves the group to the new retiree’s healthcare plan, with all benefits fully paid by the employer for the duration of the agreement. The wage increase for 2022 is 5%.  For 2023 and 2024 the minimum increase is 4% with the potential for a greater increase based on CPI. General Manager Steve Jilk added these comments to the memo that was sent to the PUD commissioners: “I want to express my appreciation to our employees in the Union for their willingness to bargain in good faith and in a realistic and fair-minded manner to get this agreement reached in a timely manner.”  On January 25, 2022, the PUD commissioners unanimously approved the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Heather Ewing, Business representative for Teamsters Local 231 said, “Over the past 4 years we have worked through issues collaboratively to preserve the intent of the Agreement and I look forward to continuing that relationship with the new PUD General Manager Chris Heimgartner.”  Teamsters Local 231 would like to thank Guy Gleason, Teamster Shop Steward, for his dedication to the negotiation process and his willingness to volunteer his time in order to get this agreement done.
