Support employees at Island County Sherriff’s office and at the Island County Correctional Facility have had their voices heard! On July 26, 2022, the Teamsters Union Local 231 filed a Petition for Representation for both groups through the Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC). On August 1, 2022, the Island County Representative informed the Union, that the Island County would voluntarily recognize the Teamsters as the new representative for employees at each location. The Sheriff’s Office Support staff group is comprised of 9 employees and there are 19 Deputies, Sergeants and Lieutenants working at the Correctional Facility. Both groups have hit the ground running in preparation to bargain their first Teamster contract, which will ensure protections for their working conditions, wages, and benefits. Teamsters Local 231 is excited to welcome such involved and eager groups of employees to the organization and look forward to working with these new Teamsters at Island County!
