Greetings, Whatcom County Master Bargaining Unit Members:
On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the County and the Union had discussions, and in recognition of the cooperation received for taking 32 hours of furlough in 2020, and the County’s better than anticipated financial status, the County will be implementing a two percent (2%) general wage increase to each wage step in all ranges of the July 2020 hourly matrix.
In accordance with Article 18, section 18.01c Contract Minimums, of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Teamsters Union Local 231 and Whatcom County which states: Wage rates as provided for in this Agreement shall be minimums and shall not preclude the payment of wages otherwise authorized by the Executive, the two percent (2%) increase is poised to take effect July 11, 2021, pending Council approval.
Please note: All other provisions of the one-year contract extension shall remain in effect until expiration December 31, 2021. Your Union representatives look forward to meeting with you later this year to discuss proposals in preparation for negotiating a successor agreement.
